The 100,000 SF Wellness Center consisted of a two-phase construction process. The Phase I electrical and mechanical components were sized to accommodate the future Phase II expansion, as well as converting to a chilled and hot water system for the entire building. Phase I was designed with direct expansion cooing and dedicated natural gas boiler for economy. With the build out of Phase II, the Phase I HVAC equipment was converted from direct expansion to chilled water, with a new 400-ton chiller and central boiler installed to serve the entire facility. The pool area included full HVAC with dehumidifiers and integration of the dehumidifiers with the pool water heating system for waste heat recovery. Additionally, Energy Recovery Ventilators were utilized for most areas of the building. New DDC controls were provided throughout the building, integrated into the University’s central system.
